KBN USA

The Full Story

For almost two decades, Helping Those in Need and Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation have
worked tirelessly to improve healthcare in Liberia, with a particular focus on advancing the
neurosciences. Liberia, a nation devastated by civil wars and pandemics, has long suffered from
inadequate healthcare systems and low healthcare spending. Most Liberians lack access to the
essential surgical and medical resources that many take for granted elsewhere. Without
intervention, life-saving operations remain inaccessible to thousands, leaving families and entire
communities to suffer the consequences. Now, imagine that within this challenging environment, a beacon of hope has emerged—a team of dedicated professionals determined to change the future of healthcare in Liberia and West Africa. This is the mission of Helping Those in Need and Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation who have joined as Korle-Bu Neuroscience USA (KBN USA), a US based nonprofit initiative committed to bringing life-saving neurosurgical services and medical equipment to one of the most underserved regions in the world.

KBNF HOPE Liberia

In a world full of opportunities, one project stands out as a beacon of hope for a brighter future in
Liberia, West Africa, and beyond. The Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation (KBNF) has been a driving force
in addressing the pressing need for improved healthcare, particularly in neurosciences, in West Africa
since 2000. With a steadfast commitment to pioneering medical missions, shipping decommissioned
hospital supplies and equipment, and planning the construction of two state-of-the-art teaching
hospitals in Ghana, KBNF and its partners have proven their dedication for advancing healthcare in the
region.

KBNF aims to deliver healthcare to those in need by compassionate professionals dedicated
to excellence through the creation of KBNF West African Medical City of Liberia, named HOPE Liberia
(KBNF Hospital City of Premier Excellence in Liberia). This innovative endeavor is set to become the preferred choice for neurosciences and healthcare services, offering cutting-edge clinical care,
education, training, and research. KBNF strives to create a base of competent professionals to serve the
nation, region and continent. HOPE Liberia is envisioned as self-sustained, environmentally
transformative, and fiscally responsible and will not only cater to nationals but also attract individuals
from West Africa, Africa, and beyond.

Through HOPE Liberia, KBNF seeks to oversee, teach, develop, promote excellence, and ingrain the
principles, mission, and vision of KBNF through heart-powered leadership, integrity, innovation, and stewardship in the governing corporation.

By partnering with hospitals and utilizing new and surplus medical equipment, we’ve proven that excellence in medical care can be brought to even the most resource-deprived areas. Each mission costs more than $110,000, and provides 20 US certified volunteer doctors, nurses, and technicians, and free essential neuroscience services to over 300 patients, performing over 50 critical neurosurgical operations, and educating and training countless Liberian and West African doctors, nurses, technicians, and administrators within a 10-day period. The impact is profound. These surgeries save lives, restore health, and offer hope to families who would otherwise have none. But this mission cannot continue without your help. A contribution of $75,000 or more can directly fund multiple surgical missions each year, ensuring that hundreds more patients receive the life-saving operations they desperately need. Your tax-deductible donation will not only change lives but also ripple through communities, enabling people to return to work, support their families, and help others in their own time of need.
